The best for illustrations (5 stars)
I've got Sibley, iBird, and Peterson. Sibley has the best illustrations and text related to identification, hands down. Peterson, on the other hand, shows the plates from their book, so you can see multiple species on one page - a better format for people who don't already know what they're looking for. Take the complaints on here with a grain of salt. All the complaints of bugs were true problems but the company was VERY quick to respond and fix the problem. This app is FANTASTIC! Sibley is the best for everyone but especially those really interested in learning to identify birds. There is no substitute for the identifying features provided in the illustrations of this field guide. Many people like actual photographs but they can not

Yes, this app is better than the book! The illustrations are excellent and so are the bird song recordings. However, the search tool is basically useless. I mean, seriously! Using color is a pretty basic function for searching for a bird and with this app there's not even an option to select brown as a color. You have got to be kidding! No gray either. The first time I tried to use the search tool was right after seeing a Northern Shrike. At
