If you misplace your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, the Find My iPhone app will let you use another iOS device to find it and protect your data. Simply install this free app on another iOS device, open it, and sign in with your Apple ID.Find My iPhone will help you locate your missing device on a map.You can then choose to display a message or play a sound, remotely lock your device, or erase your data on it.

Please note that Find My iPhone must be enabled in the iCloud settings on your device for you to locate it with this app.

REQUIREMENTS:
iOS 5 or OS X Lion v10.7.2 is required for iCloud users (iOS 3.1.3 or later is required for MobileMe users).
iCloud account (available free with iOS 5 or OS X Lion) or MobileMe account is required.
Internet connection is required. To be located, your iPad with Wi-Fi, iPod touch, or Mac must be connected via a registered Wi-Fi network. Your Mac must also be awake.

I wish the app would link to the specific serial number on the back. My iPad was stolen, but I had this app. The person that took my iPad must have restored it to factory settings within 15 minutes of it being stolen. If it would link to the serial number then the risk factor of it being lost and not returned would be much lower.

It works (5 stars)
I got my phone taken @ a restaurant. The next day i tracked it to a pawn shop where a guy had sold it. I'M SO HAPPY.

My iphone would be at the bottom of a landfill right now without this app! I inadvertently dropped it in the trash woith my popcorn after a movie and didn't realize it until we got home. The app showed me it hadn't left the theater. After we didn't find it on th floor, we thought to try the trash, but there were about 20 bags. The send a tone function helped us find the bag it was in and mad a noise even though it was on silent! I would have
