Earth-Now by Jet Propulsion Laboratory
DescriptionNASA's Earth Now is an application that visualizes recent global climate data from Earth Science satellites, including surface air temperature, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, and water vapor as well as gravity and sea level variations. Data sets are visually described using "false color" maps. Color-coded legends are provided to indicate relative strength or weakness of an environmental condition. The resulting 3D model of the Earth may be rotated by a single finger stroke, and may also be zoomed in or out by pinching 2 fingers. It was developed by the Earth Science Communications and Visualization Technology Applications and Development Teams at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with support from NASA Headquarters.v1.4: - Fixed the crash that was effecting a few users! - Text changes for some datasets - Update Air Temperature Dataset - Stability & Bug fixes v1.3: - Carbon Dioxide datamaps updated up to December 2011 - New Sea Level Data that replaces the old dataset, updated up to December 2011 v1.2: - Initial App Store Release What's New in Version 1.4- Fixed the crash that was affecting a few users!- Text changes for some datasets - Update Air Temperature Dataset - Stability & Bug fixes Customer ReviewsVery informative (4 stars)I love this app and haven't had any issues with it. Very educational. One suggestion: please add sea surface temperatures. Metric Units of Measurement. What's a Fahrenheit? (2 stars) NASA has a checkered history WRT mixing units of measurement. One would think that they had learned their lesson. The application should provide the user with temperatures in metric units of measurement - either Kelvin and/or Celsius. Other observations such as the gravity field, sea level etc are provided with metric units. Why not temperatures? Users! Give them an inch, they'll take a mile! UPDATE FIXED CRASH ISSUE (4 stars) Latest update seems to have fixed the crash issue. Now the app functions beautifully! It may not be the most accurate or interactive app of this sort but I like this kind of info & find it extremely interesting. Overall a very nice app. Thanx for fixing the crash bug!
